Dear Family of St John’s
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your head in the clouds? Well, now’s your chance to experience it – kind of!
You may remember that in March last year four of us undertook a fundraising initiative for our Egypt trip – Ladies on the Roof. It was a fabulous evening and your support was astounding! I don’t think I’ve ever drunk that much coffee in a twelve-hour period!
Well, we’re expanding on that idea this year…
On the weekend of 28 February – 2 March I will be taking on the very real challenge of sleeping on the roof of the church for not one, but TWO nights. I’ll be spending both Friday and Saturday nights under the stars, in a fundraising adventure that promises a lot of fun and for a great cause.
If you attended our Egypt Trip feedback last year, you would have heard me share about how we wanted to bring one of the families we know to visit us here at St John’s. St John’s has shared a long-standing and meaningful connection with Egypt, and this event is a unique opportunity to extend our friendship and support. The family’s visit will deepen our bond and enable more of our congregation to meet them. We hope to give them a warm and heartfelt welcome, but we need your help to make it happen.
The exciting news is that we have confirmed their visit for mid-June this year!
This weekend will be our first fundraising initiative. And, it’s not just about me being on the roof for two nights… there’s so much more happening!
A Rooftop Dining Experience Like No Other
While I have my “head in the clouds,” we invite you to keep your “feet on the ground” and enjoy a weekend of fun-filled activities for all ages. Throughout the weekend, you can join me on the church roof for delicious meals at the Skyroof Restaurant, a new and exciting experience in town!
Book your seat at my table for Friday night dinner or a midnight snack. On Saturday you could make a booking for Champagne Sunrise, Breakfast, Morning ‘High’ Tea, Lunch, Afternoon ‘High’ Tea, or Dinner.
Only four seats are available for each slot. We will be served scrumptious meals by our friendly waiters who will ascend and descend the ladder to meet our every need! Enjoy the food, laughter, and good company. Every meal you share will directly contribute to this wonderful cause.
Activities for Everyone
But that’s not all!
While I’m busy reaching new heights, there’s plenty happening down below, too. On Friday night, we’ll kick off the weekend with a campout on the Village Green. Bring your tents, sleeping bags, and a sense of adventure! Boerie Rolls will be on sale, and you’ll be able to observe the Skyroof Restaurant from below.
And, of course, there will be egg and bacon rolls for breakfast on Saturday morning to fuel us for the day ahead.
On Saturday night, we’ll wrap up the weekend with a family-friendly movie on the Village Green. Grab a blanket, or your camping chair, bring your friends, and settle in for a cozy, outdoor movie experience under the stars.
I will descend the ladder on Sunday morning at 7am in time to greet you at the door for our normal church services. (I promise to visit one of our friendly cottage residents for a shower before the service!)
Why Your Participation Matters
Your involvement in this event isn’t just about having fun (although we guarantee there will be plenty of that!). It’s about coming together to show support for our friends in Egypt, who are so close to our hearts. The funds raised from this event will help bring the family over, allowing them to connect with us in person, share their experiences, and strengthen the bonds we’ve built over the years.
So, whether you’re hoping to join us on the roof for a delicious meal, enjoy the campout, or settle in for a relaxing movie night, we encourage you to be a part of this special weekend. Bring your enthusiasm, your friends, and your hearts full of support for a cause that truly matters.
Let’s get our feet on the ground and make this weekend one to remember, all while helping our Egyptian family feel the love and connection we’ve been building together for so long.
We look forward to seeing you there!
With love
Your friend and rector,
Claire
