Come Holy Spirit
This week I was privileged to be part of the celebration of life of a very dear man & longstanding member of St Johns. One of his deep desires was that souls would find eternal life in Jesus Christ – He always said we have two choices in life – to choose eternity with God or not!
I share with you an extract from Henri Nouwen’s daily meditation: The In dwelling of God Here & Now, 29 September 2022.
Eternal life. Where is it? When is it? For a long time, I have thought about eternal life as a life after all my birthdays have run out. For most of my years I have spoken about the eternal life as the “afterlife,” as “life after death.” But the older I become, the less interest my “afterlife” holds for me. Worrying not only about tomorrow, next year, and the next decade, but even about the next life, seems a false preoccupation. Wondering how things will be for me after I die seems, for the most part, a distraction. When my clear goal is the eternal life, that life must be reachable right now, where I am, because eternal life is life in and with God, and God is where I am here and now.
The great mystery of the spiritual life—the life in God—is that we don’t have to wait for it as something that will happen later. Jesus says: “Dwell in me as I dwell in you.” It is this divine in-dwelling that is eternal life. It is the active presence of God at the center of my living—the movement of God’s Spirit within us—that gives us the eternal life.
Come Holy Spirit, I need you
Come, sweet Spirit, I pray
Come in your strength and your power
Come in your own gentle way
Come as a rest to the weary
Come as a balm to the sore
Come, Lord, as strength to my weakness
Fill me with joy evermore
Come, Holy Spirit, I need you
Come, sweet Spirit, I pray
Come in your strength and your power
Come in your own gentle way
Come like a spring in the desert
Come to the withered of soul
Lord, let your sweet healing power
Touch me and make me whole
Come, Holy Spirit, I need you
Come, sweet Spirit, I pray
Come in your strength and your power
Come in your own gentle way
Realise this: That if you were the last person standing on this earth – God would have still sent Jesus – to die for you. Because God did not want to live in eternity without you!
When we realise this: We are called to make a choice!
Don’t waste any more time! Ask Jesus to come into your heart.
Come Holy Spirit, Renew my hope,
Restore my joy, Through the power of Your eternal life!
Much love
Michelle ❤
